And it occurs to me that there is a perfectly understandable reason, under some systems, for people to hate and fear Seers.

See, the Seers say that they see the future. They say.

But... really, how can you tell, from an in-universe perspective? All you know is that what the Seers predict come true.

In at least one anime/manga series, the entire human race suffers from face-blindness. This is why everyone can only distinguish each other by extremely unusual facial characteristics, hairstyle, and build.

( Sign a magic system may be embarrassingly screwed-up: attempting to reduce creepiness results in being smacked in the face by Magical Negro and Noble Savage tropes. Oh well. Arguably, that just means the tropes were already present in the original work (particularly Breaking Dawn, with certain wolves being at the Cullens' beck and call), and... oh gad, what's wrong with me? Fairly sure the ghosts are caricatured versions of the dead ("imprint of a departed soul"), not actually the dead person's soul (which is at King's Cross). Hence why Moaning Myrtle, Professor Binns, etc. are... uh... a bit over-the-top, to put it mildly.

Along those lines, I think the portraits are basically a way of ensuring A) the "ghost" shows up ( Read more... )

Sasuke, on some level, still hates Itachi. Therefore, he is (likely subconsciously) planning to destroy Konoha not to avenge Itachi, but to spite Itachi.
